AFC Wimbledon Foundation are engaging with more Women and Girls in a big mission to get more females active and playing football. This comes at an exciting time with a build towards next year’s Women World Cup 2019, hosted by France. The Men’s World Cup in 2018 had the whole country singing ‘Its coming Home’ by the Semi Finals and we at AFC Wimbledon Foundation are hoping for a repeat of support for the Mighty Lioness’s next year.
AFC Wimbledon currently has Girls only sessions which provides fun, active learning and development from age 5-12 on Saturday’s at Wimbledon Park and a more advanced Player Development Centre for Girls Only for 11 – 16 year olds on Weds from 6 – 7pm at Southfields Academy.
As part of our main Premier League Girls project we deliver eight sessions per week at secondary and community venues across Merton, Wandsworth and Kingston including a DS/Pan disability girl’s only session based at Southfields. As part of this work the Foundation also delivers girls only futsal and seven a side tournaments locally and delivers girls only sessions at primary schools.
Our Women’s 30+ Football Team who recently went and represented the club at a tournament hosted by Arsenal FC at the Arsenal HUB, will be playing friendlies and attending football festivals and Tournaments over the year. Our new women’s Recreational Football session runs alongside our mixed Dons Fit Session on a Monday night at Kingsmeadow.
